Rico Java alto saxophone reeds ( JAzz VAriety) are made from thicker cane than the traditional Vandoren reed and were developed by Vandoren in the 1980's for playing jazz. Rico Java alto saxophone reeds  became very popular very quickly especially with jazz and funk players and remain the choice of many top players for their huge, bright tone. Rico Java alto saxophone reeds are used by David Sanborn and Lenny Pickett.
